About Biostimulants

Biostimulants comprise of compounds, substances, and microorganisms that are neither plant protection products nor fertilisers. They are a relevant component in integrated cropping systems. Using biostimulants efficiently helps to reduce the use of pesticides and mineral fertilisers, helping to achieve the EU’s ambitious green deal goals.

Plant biostimulants are products used to have an effect on abiotic stress factors of plants, independently of the products nutrient content. This definition places them between Plant Protection Products (for control of biological factors as pests, diseases and weeds) and fertilisers (directly contributing to the plant nutrition). The aim of these products is to improve nutrient use efficiency, plant tolerance to abiotic stress, quality characteristics, or the availability of nutrients in the soil or rhizosphere, etc. They play an increasingly important role as a complementary component of integrated farming systems.
