About Reach
REACH is the comprehensive European Union regulation (EC 1907/2006) for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals, effective since June 1, 2007.
The REACH regulation imposes the mandatory registration of chemical substances and their associated risks (no data – no market). This means that no chemical substance can be placed on the market without registration. The EU REACH regulation works on the principle of “one substance – one registration” implementing the joint submission of the same substance by manufacturers and importers, and a right for the consumer to obtain information about chemicals in the products.
The main objectives of REACH regulation are to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment and at the same time the free movement of chemicals into, and within, the internal market as well as to promote competitiveness and innovation. The REACH regulation ensures the safety of chemical substances in use in the EU and also promotes alternative (non-animal) methods to assess the hazard of chemical substances.
