Toxicology

We provide toxicological assessment and regulatory support with a particular focus on plant protection products and biocides. Our toxicologists have extensive experience in evaluating active substances and products in accordance with current EU regulatory requirements and in translating complex toxicological data into clear, scientifically robust conclusions.

A key area of expertise is the assessment of endocrine-disrupting properties (ED). We evaluate endocrine datasets in line with the applicable ECHA/EFSA guidance, including weight-of-evidence assessment, mode-of-action considerations, analysis of adversity and biological plausibility, identification of data gaps and uncertainties, and preparation of scientifically substantiated regulatory conclusions.

Our expertise also covers the major toxicological endpoints relevant for active substance approval and product authorisation, including acute toxicity, irritation and sensitisation, repeated-dose toxicity, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity, neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, toxicokinetics and metabolism.

Where appropriate, we apply QSAR and other in silico methods to support hazard assessment, data gap analysis, read-across strategies and weight-of-evidence evaluations. This may include the interpretation of model predictions and their integration into broader toxicological assessments.

In addition to our core work in plant protection and biocides, we prepare toxicological statements, expert opinions and scientific assessments for substances from other regulatory areas, including REACH, feed additives, fertilizing products, detergents and industrial chemicals. Depending on the question, this may range from the assessment of individual studies or endpoints to broader evaluations of hazard profiles, human health concerns or classification-related issues.

Our toxicologists bring extensive regulatory experience and broad scientific expertise. Their current training towards recognition as European Registered Toxicologists (ERT) builds on this established expertise and supports the formal qualification requirements for ERT registration.

Our approach combines scientific depth, regulatory understanding and critical evaluation to provide transparent and defensible toxicological assessments for regulatory decision-making.
